AIA’s Committee on the Environment honors the best in sustainable architecture and ecological design

To be considered for this year’s award program, firms were required to be signatories of the AIA 2030 Commitment. And submitted projects were encouraged to meet the 2030 Commitment’s energy reduction goals with a minimum of 70 percent improvement over the 2003 CBECS baseline.

While no projects were in the Northwest, two winning firms are based here, ZGF and Mithun. And Amanda Sturgeon, FAIA, of the Living Future Institute in Seattle was on the jury this year.

The program also bestowed the COTE Top Ten Plus Award to one project based on post-occupancy data that demonstrates its environmental impact because of its sustainable design, the Brock Environmental Center of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation by SmithGroup.
