PAE Engineering spent more than 10 years preparing Portland International Airport for its transition to electric groundwater heat pumps as part of a $2.15 billion expansion and renovation project. With an understanding that fossil-fuel-based systems supply water at higher temperatures than heat pumps, they knew that the project may require downstream changes to fan coil units and other infrastructure to maintain the same level of heating with a lower temperature distribution.

Visit Facilities Dive to find out how PAE Engineering determined their project needs, decided which pipes could be reused and which required replacement, and ensured this high-profile facility made an effective and seamless transition to electric groundwater heat pumps.
